John Lewis Brief

About a month ago I applied for the internship position as Childrenswear Design Assistant for John Lewis. The brief was to design a capsule Spring/Summer collection consisting of Baby, Toddler and Childrenswear. I created the following prints and flat drawings using Photoshop and Illustrator.
Unfortunately, I didn't get the placement, I was really disappointed as I'd love to go into childrenswear design in the future. Though I am very happy to have got my internship at Warehouse, I'm so excited to get Buying experience!

Autumn/Winter 2012 Trends continued..

Above: Illustrations and inspiration for 'Ladylike, 50's' Autumn/Winter 2012 trend. Two of my favourite collections are Chloe and Carven. Collecting inspiration from 50's classic shapes: Cocoon coats, fur collars and coats(Made In Chelsea!) High neck profiles-turtle neck thick and cable knit sweaters, fitted knits, tapered and wide leg trousers, tailored and ladylike simple looks, double breasted blazers/coats, pastel, subtle colours and tartan and tweed prints.

you're rarer than a can of dandelion and burdock

My new bag from the carboot, 50p! I adore it. The woman was like 'You do know it's for binoculars', 'oh I know haha..' She let me have it half price as I had a 'nice smile' :P

Why couldn't God make me Elvis? Because he was saving you for John Lennon.

Above, moodboard of illustrations by me, plus pictures inspired by film 'Nowhere Boy'. Another trend that's been around for aw hail, the Teddy Boy, rocker trend. Alex Turner being an obvious example to jump on the bandwagon with his Elvis like quiff. Key pieces include; crombie, bomber and leather jackets, check shirts with the collar turned up, slightly undone, pointy brogues and rolled-up loose fitting jeans.

it's not your fault you measure success by money and passessions, it's just not the right way to live

Stills from psycological thriller Martha Marcy May Marlene, directed by Sean Durkin. Without a doubt, one of my favourite films this year. Unlike most films, the audience is not 'spoon fed'.

Autumn/Winter 2012 Round Up: Topshop Unique

Above: illustrations inspired by the Topshop Unique A/W 2012 Collection. A definate trend is the Military trend with utilarian style pieces and features such as military boots, leather and leather paneling on wool coats and earthy colours.

My favourite key pieces for next season are lace-up wedge boots, oversize shirts, narrow fitted shirt dresses,  hi-lo hems,  the trophy knit jumper, loose-fit trousers, asymmetrical shapes.

I adore the outfit choices of Alexa Chung and Pixie Geldof, especially Alexa's geeky, slightly too short tapered trousers. I love her 'awkward-boy' style!
