Jazz Age

FINALLY i've got round to purchasing my favourite fashion magazine 'Elle'. I don't usually buy magazines anymore, what with being a poor student, but I always like to get Elle & Vogue when they include 'Runway 'Edits'. I do quite like the trend forecaste for Spring/Summer 2012, from what I can gather, there seems to be alot of hype for futuristic, almost 'Star Trek' like themes, sportswear, pastel colours &50's inspired shapes. One of my favourite trends I noticed that I am going to mention in my first trend analysis post is the 'Jazz Age', 1920's-esque trend, featuring flapper dresses, drop waists, sequins and beads, art deco prints and fringing.

(Another reason I picked this trend first was from recently watching 'The Artist'. I would now really like to own the wardrobe of character Peppy Miller..)

Below: my moodboard..
Inspiration: Designers such as Roberto Cavalli & Alverta Ferretti, artists such as Klimt and Erte, 1920's fashion illustrations and film inspiration 'The Artist'.

These are my own fashion illustrations, first pencil sketched, scanned into my laptop and worked into illustrator. The left image is my from a Gucci s/s 2012 dress, the image on the right is a Roberto Cavalli s/s 2012 dress.(Fringing is particularly difficult to do on illustrator..)

'Do you know there are people who sleep with absolutely nothing on?

Screenshots from 1953 film 'Roman Holiday' starring Audrey Hepburn. This was almost as good as Breakfast At Tiffany's, Audrey Hepburn continues to be one of my favourite actresses with her quirky personality, class and flawless style. Note the tie-up sandals, midi skirt & rever collared shirt and neck tie. I also would now really like to go to Italy to eat ice cream and to see the 'Wall where wishes come true' and 'The Mouth Of Truth'.

Alexa

Style Inspiration #1
Alexa Chung has been one of my favourite style icons ever since I became interested in fashion. I started to take notice of her quirky, kind of 'thrown together, in-a-rush' sort of outfits back in her Freshly Squeezed channel 4 presenting days. (one of main reasons to get me out of bed for school extra early just to watch the show!) I also became addicted to Gok Wan's Fashion Fix which she co-presented..absolutley GUTTED when I found out she would no longer take part in the show after the first season.
Although I prefer a little more eccentricity in my style, I do like to copy elements of Alexa's wardrobe. My favourite signature pieces of hers are the endless amounts of coats and blazers, her perfect shoe collection-be it classic chelsea boots to adorable cat-faced heels, chique dresses and collared blouses and her slogan t-shirts and breton striped tops, often combined with the infamous Levis high waisted denim shorts.
